Looking for shot blasting machine?

Are you looking for a shot blasting machine? Have you just started in this area of work? We have prepared a few tidbits of information regarding shot blasting and shot blasting machine for you.

Shot blasting is much alike sandblasting, the shot blasting machine is not very different from sandblasting machine either. The main difference lies in the fact that shot blasting media is much larger than sandblasting media. These shots are heavier and as a result deliver larger kinetic impact across the impact surface of each shot, which can deform even hard metals, whereas sandblasting can only affect soft layers of paint or rust. Shot blasting is mostly used for hardening metal sheets and grids.

Each shot blasting machine has similar structure to sand blasting machine and thus typically consists of the following essentials: shot blasting nozzles, through which shots are propelled, container for shot blasting media (shots of any type), propelling unit, which propels these shots (gravity wheel or pressure pump) and finally blast cabinet or booth, which contains everything in a secure environment.

The shot blasting machine concept is basically the same as for sandblasting, the only differences are in scale of media, the effect and the fact that shots don’t raise dust. Shot blasting machine also contains some kind of media recycle system, which feeds used shots back to the hopper or container, thus recycling shots and lowering maintenance expenses.

Choosing the right sandblasting sand

Sandblasting sand

Sand blasting machine uses fine mineral media aka sandblasting sand, of which there is a great variety. Each type of sandblasting sand has different uses and attributes, some of which are common for shot media and shotblasting machine, but sandblasting sand has numerous uses depending on its attributes. Shot blasting is mostly used for hardening of metal sheets and removing of tough impurities, whereas sandblasting yields many different effects. The most common use of sandblasting sand is to remove contaminants or impurities from sensitive (soft) surfaces, such as bricks, wood and so on. Another common use is to alter soft surfaces, such as to carve signatures, cut or wear a surface out.

The most often used sandblasting sand is silica sand, but it is hazardrous to health due to lung illness or silicosis.  Silica sand particles scatter on impact and remain in air, where they can enter lungs from and eventually cause a serious illness. That is why protective equipment is mandatory for workers operating sand blasting machine with sandblasting sand such as silica cand. The need has arisen for sandblasting sand that does not pose a health hazard.

An alternative sandblasting sand is slightly more expensive but safe garnet dust. There are other alternatives, such as artificial sandblasting sand, ground nuts, variety of mineral sand (with similar properties to garnet) and dry ice, which evaporates on impact and thus doesn’t present any health risk to workers. An alternative solution is enclosed sandblasting cabinet, where sandblasting sand remains trapped in a limited environment and does not circulate in environment. Sandblasting cabinet also recycles sandblasting sand easily, as none of it can escape.

Choose the right sandblasting sand not by the price, but quality and safety. Quality and no-hazard sandblasting sand will take you a long way as well as ensure high-quality products, whereas cheap sandblasting sand can cause premanent damage to both your products and workers.

Aluminum pallets for blasting machines

If you haven’t noticed yet you can see that wooden pallets are being supplanted by aluminum pallets and other pallets made from metal or plastic since they have longer life span than wooden pallets since wood is basically organic material and doesn’t last as long as metal and other non-organic materials. Lately most of the sand blasting machine and other companies are throwing away or burning wooden pallets or even selling them to coal making factories and are replacing them with aluminum pallets for transport since they cannot brake like wood does. Even though wooden pallets are being replaced by aluminum pallets they’re still being used in third world countries and countries in eastern Europe. But if you see a truck transporting sand blasting machine you’ll most likely see them being transported metal or plastic pallets except for maybe in poor countries with low metal resources. But then again wooden pallets are not that bad that you may think since they can be still used as burning material after they can’t be used any more so they might be still used in colder countries like Russia or Scandinavian countries. But in any other case metals can still oxidate which leads into use of alcohol or any other anti-oxide cleaning materials. But there’s still question why can’t you see iron pallets and answer is quite simple. You need to transform iron into steel since iron can be damaged by rust and is useless afterwards and aluminum pallets are way cheaper than steel pallets.

What is abrasive sand blasting machine?

Abrasive sandblasting is a process using abrasive mineral media and abrasive sand blasting machine is sandblasting tool using the abrasive mineral sand. There is a great variety of abrasive equipment available on the sandblasting market, however not all of it can guarantee an efficient and quality abrasive sand blasting process. If you desire good results of sandblasting process, you need quality abrasive sand blasting equipment – abrasive machine and abrasive media. Picking the right abrasive blasting machine and media therefore is important for your production or service.

There is another thing to consider when choosing an abrasive sand blasting machine; the health safety. Abrasive blasting can cause dust to spread through air, which is then inhaled and stuck in lungs, causing lung illness. Silica sand is particularly notorious and the resulting illness is called silicosis; it can cause major damage to both your workers and your company. Picking a non-hazardrous media would be the most sensible choice. Moreover, the stream of abrasive media can cause heavy injuries when directed against body or limbs. Protective equipment is mandatory for all abrasive sand blasting machine operators.

Quality abrasive equipment may be more expensive, however with the price comes higher quality and safety. Higher quality abrasive sandblasting machine will yield less waste and more quality end products without endangering your workers, therefore it is a wise long term investment.

Quality sand blasting machine

Sand blasting machine is an industrial machine designed for sandblasting. Common uses of sand blasting machine are preparation of surface, paint removal, cleaning, etching profiles etc. There are several types of sand blasting machines suitable for certain tasks, such as shot blasting machine that is used for hardening metals.  A small, portable sand blasting machine features mobility, enabling its use in less accessible areas. Bigger sand blasting machines are stationary and are designed for high production use (in factories). Quality of the sand blasting machine heavily influences quality of the sandblasting process and the end product itself, hence a quality machine is a solid investment for any company. Choosing the right sand blasting machine for the job can potentially save a chunk of expenses as well as generate additional value, not to mention boosting productivity.

When we talk about sand blasting we normally think about removing color from different surface. But sand blasting can be use for many other things, but only if we have proper sand blasting machine and of course proper equipment.

Sandblasting machine can be mobile or stationary, but since we should all know what difference is let’s go to other classification. Normally we classify sandblasting machine in 2 categories, pressure blast system and pressure blast system withought dust.

The work and scisnce behind how it works is the same in both. Machine generates high pressure and then shoots abrasive to surface and therefore removes paitn and clean surface.
The difference between these two machines is size, dust adn equipemnt needed for it.

For normal sandblasting we just shoot sand which makes a lot of dust. Equipment needed for that is not that much different from shot blasting machine.
But if we talk about dustless sand blasting we need way bigge machine and more hoses. Also machine has recycling filter as part of that extra equipment and different nozzles.

The main difference here is that all the abrasive that is used it being vacuumed back and recycles so you can use abrasive again. But sadly you can only blast some of the surfaces and not all.
