Shot blasting is much alike sandblasting, the shot blasting machine is not very different from sandblasting machine either. The main difference lies in the fact that shot blasting media is much larger than sandblasting media. These shots are heavier and as a result deliver larger kinetic impact across the impact surface of each shot, which can deform even hard metals, whereas sandblasting can only affect soft layers of paint or rust. Shot blasting is mostly used for hardening metal sheets and grids.

Each shot blasting machine has similar structure to sand blasting machine and thus typically consists of the following essentials: shot blasting nozzles, through which shots are propelled, container for shot blasting media (shots of any type), propelling unit, which propels these shots (gravity wheel or pressure pump) and finally blast cabinet or booth, which contains everything in a secure environment.

The shot blasting machine concept is basically the same as for sandblasting, the only differences are in scale of media, the effect and the fact that shots don’t raise dust. Shot blasting machine also contains some kind of media recycle system, which feeds used shots back to the hopper or container, thus recycling shots and lowering maintenance expenses.
